Are you looking for the Best Laptop for Elgato Game Capture HD?
Then guess what?
You’ve landed on the right page!
There are multiple and cheaper Game Capture Cards available in the market; however, nothing comes as close to Elgato’s Game Capture Cards, especially its newest version Elgato HD60 S.
The Elgato brand has been a life saver for gamers who want to record their gameplay on Xbox and PlayStation.
Not only has it enabled people to record, stream and edit their gameplay, but also made it a source of income of them, whereas few gamers have become millionaires as well.
That’s great, isn’t it?
However, let’s not aim that high and stick to our topic, i.e. helping you choose the best laptop for Elgato Game Capture HD60 S.
But, before I start suggesting you laptops, let us first get well-informed with System Requirements for Elgato HD60 S
Elgato HD60 S System Requirements

Along with system requirements for Elgato HD60 S, the brand has been generous enough to provide extra information regarding its product.
On the processor front, Elgato recommends that you completely avoid Intel processors whose model number ends with U, like the Intel i5-8250U or Intel i7-8550U. It’s because they are under-powered processors and won’t be able to handle the load of capturing or live streaming 1080p videos at 60fps.
Additionally, one should completely avoid going for an Intel Pentium or Celeron brand of processors because they have low processing power.
Even the AMD APU’s are not recommended by Elgato; however, one can try anything similar or higher than AMD’s Ryzen 5 CPUs.
These are just the necessary information, but Elgato has an entire page dedicated to what works and what doesn’t for Elgato HD60 S. You can check it here.
In case you’re not in the mood to go through that article, don’t worry, I’ve gone through all the articles listed and will only suggest you the best laptop for Elgato Game Capture HD.
Best Laptop for Game Capture HD
#1: MSI GV62-8RD
MSI has always been my go-to brand when it comes to excellent quality gaming laptops.
Technically MSI laptops are a bit pricier compared to other gaming laptops; however, you really wouldn’t regret what you buy.
Anyways, talking about MSI GV62-8RD, it is a brilliant laptop that exceeds all the system requirements of Elgato HD60 S.
It comes with a Quad-Core Intel i5-8300H processor that offers 8-Threads Hyper-Threading technology that is more than enough to capture your recordings smoothly.
Additionally, to support the CPU, it comes with a powerful Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti Mobile GPU, which is not as powerful as its desktop counterpart but more than enough for Elgato HD60 S.
Technically, the Elgato HD60 S is priced under $200, while you can get the MSI GV62-8RD for just under $800. Hence under $1000, you’ll get an excellent priced game capture card and laptop system to record it to its full potential.
If you’re concerned about storage, then you needn’t worry; as MSI GV62-8RD comes with 1TB HDD coupled with 16GB of Intel Optane Memory that speeds up the slower 5400rpm HDD to SSD speeds.
On the Memory comes, the brand provides 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM that is more than enough for Elgato Game Capture HD Card.
Moreover, due to MSI’s excellent heat dissipation design, your laptop will run cooler than most gaming laptops in a similar price range, hence don’t worry about overheating at full load.
The only disappointment I find in this laptop is the inclusion of a TN panel, however, for the use of capturing Xbox and Playstation game on a laptop, this model fits perfectly.
For some reason, if you’re not convinced with the MSI GV62-8RD and want a more powerful system, then please check out our other recommendation.
Other Recommended Laptops
By every means, the Intel Core i5-8300H is a powerful processor that comes with 4-cores and 8-Threads, however, if you want something more powerful, then your best bet is always going to be Intel Core i7-8750H.
Hence the other two laptops that I’ve recommended come with Intel Core i7-8750 H processor, which is a 6-core, 12-Thread processor, and an excellent CPU for creating 3D animation and rendering, hence Capturing Gameplay with Elgato will be walking over a cake for this processor.
HP, as we all know, is reputed brand and has been around long before we were born.
Their Pavilion line of laptops have been the cash cow for the company; hence they make sure that they always put in updated and best-of-the-line products under the Pavilion badge.
The HP Pavilion 15-CX0042nr is no exception either.
As I mentioned earlier, it comes with an extremely powerful Intel Core i7-8750H processor that comes with 6-cores and 12 threads that helps it execute multiple operations at a single time.
Additionally, to support the CPU, there’s a reliable and powerful Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti mobile graphics card that handles all the graphical calculations that prevent the CPU to run at full load.
For the price, HP has included a 128GB SSD drive and a faster 7200RPM 1TB HDD drive, which is probably one of the best configurations you can get in the storage department.
To complete the package, there’s even a 16GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM, which is double the size of tad bit faster than the one in our recommended laptop.
To be honest, there are few other laptops available from other brands like Asus and Dell with similar configuration and a bit cheaper too. However considering the overall configurations, then the HP Pavilion 15-CX0045nr is a complete package.
For $100 extra, you can get a laptop with exact specifications to above laptop but with better design and much faster Nvidia GTX 1060 mobile graphics card.
This is probably the best laptop for Elgato Game Capture HD and is miles ahead than the system requirements of HD60 S.
Just like the HP Pavilion, the HP Omen comes with Intel Core i7-8750H, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 128GB SSD coupled with 1TB HDD.
Additionally, it features a Full HD Screen with IPS and Anti Glare display, which will be a relief for most people.
However with such a powerful configuration, the battery management suffers a little, and you’re left with only 4-5 hours of battery life on full charge; compared to 6-7 hours of battery life on the above laptop.
On the design and built front, the laptop is built using a metal chassis with plastic tidbits, and it has textured design on the lid. All the connectivity ports are located towards the front instead of side, which can be a little problematic for some people.
Moreover, there’s also an RGB lighting keyboard that includes number pad as well, and the layout is pretty neat for times when you’re not gaming.
What you’ll love is how slim the bezels are on the screen that gives it a premium look; however, the let down is a fat chunk of bezel towards the bottom.
All in all, the HP Omen 15-DC0030nr is an excellent laptop to be reckoned with, and you really wouldn’t go wrong with it while using with Elgato HD60 S.
#4: Dell G3 3579
If you’re looking for stylish laptop to go along with your Elgato HD60 S Capture Card, then my best suggestion is to go with Dell G3 3579.
Mating style with substance; Dell G3 3579 is my top suggestion for anyone who wants either a well designed laptop for business use or a powerful laptop for gaming.
With its modern and muted design; one wouldn’t get any eyeballs rolling once they see your laptop compared to say an aggressive styled gaming laptop from Asus or Acer.
Available in Black and White; the laptop in both colors looks awesome and has distinctive touch regarding each and definitely adds a style statement. The continuity of Blue color from the logo to the keyboard and touchpad styling makes the laptop looks fresh and stunning as well.
Now that we’ve done talking about the externals; let’s get to know what the laptop holds on the inside.
For the price under $900; you get a powerful and top-of-the-line 2.2GHz Intel Core i7-8750H, which is a 6-Core CPU and opt for gaming and capturing videos via Elgato Game Capture Cards.
Coupled with the CPU is an 8GB DDR4 with frequency of 2666MHz that is fast enough to handle most heavy application; yet if need be, you can later upgrade the laptop with additional memory by adding aftermarket RAM module.
To handle all the graphical stuff, the laptop is equipped with a powerful yet battery efficient Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti Mobile GPU that offers 4GB DDR5 graphic memory and ideal to use with Elgato HD60 S Capture Card.
On the storage front, you get 1TB HDD as default; however just like RAM, you can add a faster SSD to give the Dell G3 3579 a boost while using Elgato Capture Card.
Other features include a 15.6” Full HD Screen, Bluetooth 5.0, Dual Band Wifi, 56Whr Battery, Backlit Keyboard and preinstalled Windows 10.
While I was talking about the above mentioned Dell G3 3579 being a muted and office friendly laptop, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515 is absolutely opposite of it.
Consisting of Acer’s aggressive gaming laptop looks, the Nitro 5 bleeds red from any angle you look at it.
The top of the laptop features a black brush metal finish and a barely-there etched Acer logo that nicely camouflages with the laptop’s Black and Red theme.
Even when closed, you can notice the long-running red color bar that hosts both the hinges of the laptop, with the large heat sink just below it.
Once opened, you can easily notice the red-backlit keyboard that has extra highlighted WASD keys, which are important while gaming.
You can even notice backlit-borders on touchpad when the laptop is turned on.
Being made entirely out of plastic, the laptop somewhat doesn’t feel as sturdy as other 4 laptops mentioned above; but still that doesn’t the built quality isn’t good.
However, what may put off a lot of people is the fact that this laptop weighs around 6lbs and would not be ideal if you plan on carrying around your laptop a lot.
Priced around $700; the Acer Nitro 5 AN515 comes with excellent factor and the fact that you get an IPS display for the price; which sometimes is a missed feature on $1000+ laptops.
On the inside, the laptop comes with a powerful Intel Core i5-8300H processor, which is ideal CPU if your main use is to capture HD gameplay off of Xbox or Playstation, without spending much money.
Additionally, there’s an 8GB RAM module and 256GB SSD, which might be enough to store long gameplay recording sessions. Hence getting an HDD is a must.
Last but not the least, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515 comes with a powerful Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti that is usually available on higher priced laptops and the fact that it comes in a $700 laptop is something I can’t get in my mind.
